Matt, aka DJ Bonzo (a childhood nickname that stuck), cut his teeth on
the dance floor, moving from illegal warehouses and squat parties to
the underground glow of the ’90s Goa trance scene. Immersed in its raw
energy, Bonzo absorbed into its unique fusion of Eastern rhythms and
scales, hippie roots, Indian and tribal influences, all woven into
electronic beats.
Years on, alongside a deep commitment to Chinese martial and spiritual
arts, Bonzo rediscovered an underground scene he’d missed: the roots
of UK club culture in the 1970s, Northern Soul. That spark led to the
launch of Soul Guardians with Steve Payne. A decade later, Soul
Guardians is thriving, with regular parties and Bonzo’s ever-growing
collection of 7" vinyl.
For Our Vibe Festival, Bonzo looks back to those early influences,
serving up a journey through chillout, deep electronica, downtempo,
ethno, oriental, and tribal soundscapes.
