OUR VIBE Sounding Out with Gemma Gardner

Gemma Gardner is a Sound therapy practitioner, educator and doctoral researcher at the London College of Music, University of West London. Her PhD investigates Sound-Based Resonance Intervention (SBRI) for emotional regulation in autistic adolescents and young adults, exploring physiological responses alongside participants’ lived experiences.

Drawing on her work with autistic people and those with sensory differences and complex needs, Gemma’s research examines how structured sound interventions can be adapted, evaluated and implemented within supportive settings. Her mixed-methods approach brings together physiological measures, emotional wellbeing questionnaires and qualitative accounts to explore both measurable responses and individual experiences. She is preparing a research submission for the International Association for Music and Medicine (IAMM) in October.

As founder of Signature Sound Therapies and Signature Sound Academy, Gemma combines practice, practitioner education and academic enquiry. She is passionate about strengthening the evidence base for sound therapy and making research accessible, encouraging thoughtful discussion about what we know, what remains uncertain and how this can inform inclusive, responsible practice.
