What you need to know about Food as Medicine-
We’ve been working in healthcare for some time, each of us coming from different corners. When we came together, we knew we wanted to build something grounded in prevention, equity, and real impact. We realized the system was treating symptoms, not root causes. Food as medicine felt like the most urgent and natural place to begin that journey. It brought together everything we cared about: health, access, community, and justice. FAM is the first step in what we hope is a long, transformative path.
Doing what we do is important to us and this is deeply personal. We have all lost family members and friends to diseases and complications that could’ve been prevented or managed with better access to nutritious food. I grew up in a community where fast food was on every corner and fresh produce was a luxury. That’s not just a public health issue, it's a justice issue. FAM is my way of not only honoring that experience but helping shift the reality for others.
We focus on driving real-world change by elevating food and health issues to where they can make the biggest impact. The FAM Network is connecting the right people and ideas to shift systems and influence policy where it matters most. We've seen first hand how connecting the right people can lead to new partnerships, funding, research, and legislation that improve lives. It's about pushing this conversation from the margins into the mainstream. Â
The vision from the beginning was simple: make food part of the way we care for each other. That means integrating it into healthcare, into policy, into everyday life. We want a world where the idea that food is medicine isn’t revolutionary, it’s just normal. What’s next is scaling up, sharing what’s working, and building systems that last. We want this movement to be bigger than any one organization. This is about shifting culture and closing the health gap, for good.
