Planetary Turbulence
Navigating the oncoming changes
Before you start reading, I have to say that I am not an expert in this area. I do think it is significant however, and am trying to understand it. So, please don’t quote me without cross-checking, and if you see errors, please let me know.
Having said that, here we go.
You may know that our planet has two north poles — and two south poles.
One is known as ‘true north’ or ‘true south’. It is the point at the top and bottom of the planet where all the lines of longitude converge. The technical term is the geographic north or south pole. If you draw an imaginary line through the planet from the true south to the true north pole and out into space, it points towards the Pole star. This is the axis around which our Earth rotates every 24 hours. The whole planet wobbles slightly over thousands of years, but so far as I understand, the orientation stays more or less constant. That pole doesn’t shift.
The other pole is the one that our compasses and satnavs align to. It is called the magnetic north pole. It always wanders, but in recent decades its rate of movement has increased from a few kilometres a century to a few kilometres a year.
Here is an animation of the movement of the magnetic north pole from 1590 to the present day. From the 1990s it suddenly gallops along from north Canada towards Siberia. The magnetic south pole is also moving, but not so dramatically. Evidently something is going on with our planet’s magnetic field.
The other component to this story is the magnetic field strength. This is a complicated area — and one that I am still trying to get my head around. The field strength varies all over the planet, but having said that, a recent paper indicates that overall it is heading downwards, at an increasing pace.
What does this mean? The magnetic field (or energy field) is our planet’s shield. It keeps out most of the cosmic rays and the solar wind. The Earth’s poles start wandering like this every few thousand years. When that happens there is major upheaval — ice ages, extinctions … and that is why I wanted to try to understand what is coming our way. My investigations so far tell me that we are not all doomed. We don’t have to build bunkers or relocate to Mars, as I read that some of the billionaires are planning. Not only that, we humans — each of us — can make a positive contribution into the process.
There seems to be a periodicity with it. My hunch, which I have not been able to confirm, is that it is linked with the Platonic Great Year: the cycle of about 25000 years which gives us the astrological ages. We are about to enter the Age of Aquarius, when the Sun will rise in front of the constellation of Aquarius at the March equinox. Currently it rises in front of Pisces on that day, and 2000 years ago it rose in front of Aries. More about that here.
This is an intricate and interconnecting system. For example, the changes in the direction and strength of the geomagnetic field will have an effect on the climate. An instance I have come across is that the field decrease leads to a reduction in atmospheric ozone levels at the poles, which leads to increased warming there, which means a surge of arctic water will eventually be released down the eastern coast of North America. As it travels down to Florida it will cut across the flow of warm water from the Caribbean that moves up across the Atlantic and keeps Europe relatively warm in winter. And so Europe will be cold. I am sure there are many more chains of events like this. I’ll keep looking for them.
But don’t panic. There is more to the story than that.
Let’s explore magnetism some more. Electricity, magnetism and movement make a threesome. If two are present then the third will appear, like a wind-up torch. There is a small magnet inside the torch. You add some movement by winding it up — and the energy manifests as light.
The planet has an energy field. So have you and I. The magnetism is in the iron of our blood. As the blood circulates through the veins and arteries in our bodies, so an electromagnetic field is generated. Hospital equipment can measure it to register brain and heart activity. Similarly with the planet. There is a lot of iron circulating in the liquid layers beneath our feet — and so the field is generated.
Magnets can record things. From the first wind-up gramophone to modern data storage, this property has been used in human technological innovations. But it happens all the time, naturally. Every thought, every feeling, every action of each human (and everything else) starts as an electromagnetic signal. Where does the impulse come to move your hand, or to
decide what to do next? There is an unseen energy that determines the physical expression. Once it has been expressed, where does it get stored? It must go somewhere. Once created, it exists — and so it is recorded. All that is needed to record it is a magnet, and as we have seen, the planet has one of those.
Magnetic tapes can be wiped, too. The data can be erased. Is that what is happening on a planetary scale with the decreasing of the field? Does that mean that our planet can be cleansed and reprogrammed? Now, there’s a thought!
If so, then this is where we humans come in. Now we need to talk about frequencies and wavelengths. Some human processes, such as anger or suspicion, generate hot, intense, short-wave energy fields. They are localised, and like a thunderstorm, can soon disperse.
Others, such as kindness or care, have a different effect on us. We experience them as long, slow, quiet frequencies, that are sometimes overlooked and can be overshadowed by the immediate, noisier short-wave ones.
Worry and uncertainty are short-wave frequencies — ones that we need to pay attention to. If we feel unsettled about something, then it prevents the cooler, long-wave frequencies from engaging with us. So, when something bothers me, I know that it needs dealing with as quickly as possible, so that the noise quietens down and I can get on with the areas I want to be focussing on.
Each frequency resonates with others of its nature. That’s the tuning-fork principle. You can probably find examples from your own experience: you are in a particular thought process, and when you discuss it with a like-minded person it is as if you are tuning into each other. Some human processes are creative and some are destructive. It is my belief that the default process of the universe is towards creation. Else, how could it exist at all? All of our human ingenuity can’t even make a blade of grass, let alone keep a planet spinning in its orbit, so clearly that creative urge doesn’t originate with us — although we can give it expression. I am beginning to suspect that when we tune into one of those longer-wavelength, creative processes such as gratitude or compassion, we have the possibility of resonating with universal frequencies, frequencies that, like the cosmic rays, have crossed the universe. Now that the planet’s protective shield is coming down, are such connections becoming easier to make?
Can we, then, literally invite the world we want to see by the frequencies we choose to connect to?
Also, what will the greed, anger, fear, hatred resonate with? The prints of these destructive frequencies are being erased from the planetary tape, so they will no longer be powered from there. The universe evidently doesn’t process much of that fuel, because such frequencies are not conducive to growth and creation. Will they disappear from our world? Wouldn’t that be wonderful.
There will still be planetary upheaval. That is the way of things. It is our job to settle the anxiety and worry that may crop up as we face the uncertainty of what is coming. It is important to take the domestic concerns seriously and do whatever it takes to address them: keep some cash under a floorboard or store some tins of food in the attic, maybe. The important thing is to know that the domestic life in us is settled. That is why I am writing this here, so that I can try to make sense of what is happening.
If my understanding is correct there will also be a joy of welcoming a world that is clean and new. Without wasting so much effort on protecting ourselves we will be freed up to develop our sensitivities, to listen to the nudgings that say, maybe you need to move from here for a while, or how about getting involved in that? This is a beautiful, rich planet. We can work with her towards a future that enhances us all. Now that is something worth going through some turbulence for.

PS. Pole shifts are part of this story. That is when the poles switch, so that north becomes south and south becomes north. This happens on the Sun every 11 years. The magnetic record in the rocks say that the last time this happened on our planet was 781,000 years ago. With these geomagnetic excursions, is our planet responding to a similar signal? Is this what the heavenly bodies do?
