With Jarrod Byrne Mayer and Melody Balczon of Brooklyn Healing Arts.
Brooklyn Healing Arts (BHA) started in Brooklyn NY in 2016, but has roots going back to 2012. Currently we are based in Rochester VT where we have a wellness space and showroom for our curated instruments.
BHA simply started as a way to direct our business into an LLC, and the protection that a business has. Our practice of Kundalini Yoga always has gong at the end of a class, we fell in love with the gong and the world within it. At that point we decided to pursue the practice as our main vision, incorporating everything we had learned into it. A few years later I participated in a Sound practitioner training and went deeper and deeper into the practice. As time passed we were offering sound baths and at that time it was still fringe. Many people asked where I purchased my instruments, after directing them I realized I could be the person where people get their instruments. The business has evolved so much beyond what it started as.
We have learned that businesses are a living being, an entity that you may wish to be certain way...but must come into itself. The business acts a reflection of the self, and should represent what you hold dear in your heart. We feel sound is more than a wellness modality. It is something that can be integrated into every facet of your life. Sound, Nada Yoga, is our path…our religion. One does not need to use sound to walk the path it holds.
Creating content has been a journey. I do not like it per se, but over time I have found a way to create content that reflects who I am and my passion. I offer content that I find interesting. I will play a few instruments and think maybe….just maybe, someone will understand it and apply it to their practice. Meanwhile, it’s simply what I like.
For business tips, simply remember that people are buying YOU. The product or service is through you and is an extension. Hold your passion and vision and people will respond to that truth.
Brooklyn Healing Arts vision is to take sound beyond wellness and into the world of art. These instruments are world class artistry and need to be seen, heard, and played. As far as our vision of play, we want people to approach sound in a way that evokes their inner interests. Knowing theory and the science isn’t our focus, creating something new is. John Cage once said “I am not afraid of the new, I am afraid of the old.” The world needs the new.

My book is long prose written as stream of consciousness. It is titled The Architecture of Sound and the Alchemy of Transcendence” and explores sound as a vital tool to elevating ones consciousness while remaining grounded in the body.
