It would be easy to approach writing about anxiety by making a list of the ways that being in a state of anxiousness leaves us feeling, and this might help. It’s also been done countless times, the focus often on anxiety, which connects us to anxiety. So, might there be a different way to approach this topic?

Many of the great philosophers throughout the ages have agreed on the notion that ‘you become what you think about’. There is much wisdom in this and when this is truly understood it can change the way we think, behave and live our lives.

But without dragging in some scientific study on what we think we become, maybe try to seek out examples from your own life. Be open and be honest, with yourself, and see what the truths are. You become what you think about!

So, when you think about anxiety there is the possibility to connect to anxiety. We might connect to the time when you needed to ask a friend for help or offer that apology. It might be the experience of waiting for the GP’s call or knowing if that job interview you went to swung in your favour.

This topic is vast and in these modern times difficult to avoid, but possible to avoid anxiety is, but it does take being alert and wanting something different and holding in our minds ‘we become what we think about’.

The law is things of like kind get attracted, so gold goes to gold, money goes to money, kindness goes to kindness and anxiety goes to anxiety. And we know it! We’ve all experienced it!

So, let’s not dwell on anxiety and the ‘time when’, let’s think on Confidence instead. Yes, that wonderful, amazing quality confidence.

‘But I’m not a confident person’ you may cry. It’s a nonsense and remember the more you tell yourself this the more you will become what you think about.

Let’s keep it simple and find the truths, let’s find the examples of being confidence. Well, how about when you opened the door not knowing who was there or jumping in the car and setting off on a new journey? What about the times you tied your own shoelaces or made your own dinner? Every moment of very day we have to be confident, and we have an inner warehouse stacked full of examples of times when we were confident. Reflect on your own life, make lists, see the truths, and base yourself in these times and the feelings that these attracted. It does take work, and it does take effort but living a life does-that’s part of the deal, isn’t it?
