My next book is titled The Healing Power of Sound: A Fundamental Therapeutic Guide. I started writing this book towards the end of 2025 and it’s scheduled to be published in hardback by Leaping Hare Press 01/09/26 (UK) and 03/09/26 (US). Leaping Hare Press have done an amazing job with it and I’m really pleased with it. The presentation of it is a high quality with a collection of wonderful photographs, such as a beautiful image of a gong set up in a field at dusk time. The photographs contribute a really nice vibe to the book.
The book is written as a reference guide and could help with sound healing practitioners who have travelled some distance along their path. The content connects with my writing style of dovetailing science with sound and music psychology and I have evolved my approach to writing a great deal since my first book Sounding the Mind of God. There is much that relates to evidenced based understandings as this connects to the mind, body, emotions and the spiritual levels of living.
One of the challenges I met when I was initially starting out with sound therapy was the lack of understanding regards what it was about, so my hope is that The Healing Power of Sound helps to address this in some ways.
When I was starting out in sound therapy most of the literature I found had a leaning towards the more spiritual approach to providing explanations. This very much intrigued me and I felt urged to find ways to, where possible, demystify some of the grey areas and make it much more accessible for someone interested to learn more.
Even in my early steps into sound therapy, I have met people who had had lifechanging experiences and amazing results with sound healing and therapy, and I wanted to dive deeper as to why and I was curious as to why the mind, body and emotions respond the way they do.
My journey has since been about evidencing why sound therapy works and writing books is one of the ways that I share these findings.
In The Healing Power of Sound there are several exercises that people can do to help them feel sound in their own bodies. The experiential part is very important to me and I believe the writing should be able to live off the page.
There are also reflective exercises in the book and there are explorations into what is going on when considering holistic health. It’s all very practical.
I enjoy writing and there are many reasons why I write. I feel I am at a time in my life where it’s become important to share the knowledge that my relationship with sound has blessed me with. I have been a teacher for much of my adult and so this expresses itself naturally from me in my writing. Through my writing I hope to inspire and I also hope to challenge where possible, not in a confronting way but in a way that provides an opportunity to learn. And I love immersing myself in the creative process of writing a book.
I have to balance and juggle my writing around other factors such as running businesses. I do try to clear the decks when I can and have a good run at being inside the immersive writing process, and this tends to happen in the afternoons and evenings once other needs have been dealt with earlier in the day. I am forever scribbling down notes too, and these can arrive at 2am and it becomes a matter of reaching for a piece of paper and making a note.
There has been such a rise in the interest of sound in recent years and there are so many more people who now know about sound baths and sound therapy practices. My hope I that The Healing Power of Sound will be useful to the complete beginner, the curious who are perhaps exploring their own instruments, as well as the advanced individual.
I also have a music streaming platform called Life Sonics and my hope is that people will explore both the book and the platform. The British Academy of Sound Therapy goes from strength to strength and we are currently designing our curriculum for 2027. I have also started writing another book which will be about the reflective model as this relates to sound therapy. I am co-writing that book with Clifford Sax. Clifford is a colleague who began as a student and is now become one of our senior tutors. So, the remainder of this year will be busy but it’s all wonderful.
