As we near the winter solstice and the seasonal energies of Xmas, I’ve found myself wondering: What do we really mean by “Xmas presence”? Are there particular energies that become more noticeable at certain times of the year—energies that create a distinct presence we can sense, even though they may lie dormant or unnoticed at other times? How do we understand the relationship between what we call “presence” and different kinds of energy? What exactly is a presence? Why do we say that certain individuals “have a presence,” or that when meeting modern British royalty in a formal setting, we are invited to be “in the presence of His Majesty”?
Why is it that at particular points in the year, we speak of a presence that we rarely mention otherwise? Could it be that at specific times, our planet receives an influx of universal energy or power? If so, a natural place to explore this idea is through the four major turning points of the Earth’s yearly cycle: the vernal and autumnal equinoxes—traditionally associated with heightened lunar influence—and the summer and winter solstices, which are celebrated as times of intensified solar power. Xmas aligns with the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and the summer solstice in the Southern Hemisphere.
At the equinoxes, the moon’s magnetic pull is thought to be at its most potent, a force we can literally observe in the movement of the tides. At the solstices, by contrast, the sun’s influence reaches a peak, creating an energizing, electrifying effect. Rather than the moon’s drawing, magnetic pull, the solstice amplifies solar energy, bathing the Earth in a more concentrated solar presence.
Is it possible that this intensified solar energy magnifies the energies of the planet? Could this increase in solar potency contribute to what we call “Xmas presence”? Perhaps this is why people often struggle to feel the holiday spirit when they try to summon it weeks in advance. They might even decide they won’t bother with gifts—or offering others the gift of their presence. Yet as the solstice approaches and solar energy becomes more present and gathers in strength, they begin to feel the season’s pull and naturally join in the celebrations.
This suggests that when a particular energy—whether cosmic or human—is strongly present, we are affected by its influence. Think of a time you attended a class taught by someone who radiated a passion for their subject. Their passion—literally a passage of ions or energy—transfers from them to you when you are in their presence. Often, however, once you return home, away from their energetic field, your inspiration fades and enthusiasm discharges. You might then even seek out another session to experience their presence again. This illustrates that presence arises from active energy—an invisible force that exists in the living moment of now and influences us through its power and intensity. Could this be the underlying reason we describe someone with exceptional charisma as having the “X factor”? Interestingly, X also symbolizes multiplication—perhaps the X factor represents not just energy itself, but the amplification and magnification.
Certain times of the year heighten this kind of presence due to an influx of higher-vibration energies. The winter and summer solstices are among these times, which help explain why many religious and cultural celebrations are caused to align with them. I hope that this year, you can take a moment to pause and breathe in the special energy available during the Xmas presence—a special time when solar power is magnified, and we are able to breathe in and absorb higher vibration energies in preparation for the year ahead.
